The Language Resource Center Schedule

The Language Resource Center will be open during the Winter Break, this is the schedule:

Week 1
Sunday 8th
·        Morning: Verbs
o   Past, present and future Simple and continuous
o   Irregular
·        Afternoon: Film (Toy Story 3)
o   Discussion
o   vocabulary
Monday 9th – Poetry and Art Day 1
·        Morning: Poetry reading and art discussion
o   Staff will be there to suggest poems
o   Students will bring in art (paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures etc.) and discuss artists
·        Afternoon: Poetry Writing
o   Staff will help students to construct their own poems
Tuesday 10th – Poetry and Art Day 2
·        Morning: Poetry reading and writing
o   Art display discussion
·        Afternoon: Poetry and Art display
o   International staff will read their favourite poems and some that they have written themselves
o   Students who have written their own poems can also perform them
§  There will be a poetry competition. All participants will receive a certificate, the best will receive an award
o   Students who have contributed art will explain what they have contributed
§  Each student who has contributed art will receive a certificate
·        *Art and poetry will remain on display at the LRC unless the artist would prefer to not display their work*
Wednesday 11th
·        Morning: Vocabulary
o   Creating vocabulary trees
o   Idioms
o   Commonly confused words
·        Afternoon: Film (TBC)
Thursday 12th – Games Day
·        Morning: Speaking and word games
·        Afternoon: Games we play in the English speaking world (TBC)


Week 2
Sunday 15th
·        Morning: Adjectives, adverbs and irregularities
·        Afternoon: Film (TBC)
Monday 16th – Shakespeare day 1
·        Morning: Understanding Shakespeare
o   History, context etc.
o   Vocabulary
·        Afternoon: Reading Shakespeare
Tuesday 17th – Shakespeare day 2: Performing Shakespeare
Wednesday 18th – Culture Day
·        Internationals will have a presentation booth about their own countries and cultural idiosyncrasies
o   Performances by the internationals in the afternoon
Thursday 19th – Open Mic!
·        Morning: Preparations for Open Mic afternoon performances (songs, dances, plays, poems etc.)
·        Afternoon: Open Mic!
o   Open to anyone – member or not. Tell your friends!
